Mars turning into the Garden Of Eden

Mars turning into the Garden Of Eden

On my way to my nephew's first birthday party over the weekend, I decided to take a long detour via Death Valley for a day. How can I miss out on what rangers are calling a "once in a life-time" event? I drove up the Harry Wade dirt road late Friday night and made camp with my flashlight near the Amargosa River crossing. The following panoramic picture is the first thing I saw when I stepped out of my tent in the morning.

Needless to say, I was breathless. I drove up the rest of the valley hungrily taking pictures that day. One of the last was a serene picture of boaters on "Death Valley Lake?!?" at dusk. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. Death Valley right now is like Mars turning into the Garden of Eden.
