Santa Cruz Island Campout - Hike and Paddle

After a relatively calm channel crossing, eight of us arrived on Santa Cruz Island mid-morning of 6 May. We set up camp, lunched, then kayaked in what most would consider excellent conditions. Santa Cruz has numerous sea caves, which we explored. Two of us continued on and beached at Potato Harbor. Kayaking somehow stimulates the appetite, so we had a snack, after which 5 of us went on a short hike up Scorpion Canyon.
Next day at 9:30 a.m., six of us met the GLS hikers to participate in a joint GLS/PP hike up to Montanon Peak, where we lunched, after which we took the back route to Smugglers Cove, before heading back to Scorpion Harbor.
On the last day, although sunny, the winds really picked up so we limited our kayaking to Scorpion Harbor. This, however, did not prevent all of us from exploring one of the caves just past the harbor. We then went on a final hike to Potato Harbor, before boarding the boat for the return trip back to Ventura Harbor.
We ended the trip with dinner in Camarillo, where we shared our experiences from the long weekend. A big "Thank You" to Alan Stauffer for organizing a great trip!
